Title IX Hearing Officer - Attorney

Van Dermyden Makus Law Corporation is an investigations law firm with a national presence in Title IX work. A significant part of VM’s practice includes conducting independent Title IX campus investigations and sexual misconduct hearings. We are seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working and analytical Attorney to join our dynamic Title IX team.  This role can be located anywhere in the United States.

A successful candidate must have at least two years of experience practicing law. Strong interpersonal, writing, and analytical skills are essential to this position. Experience with Title IX matters at either the K-12 or higher education level is desirable, but not required.

VM is committed to providing all Hearing Officers with robust ongoing training in the area of conducting neutral hearings, through our Title IX Training Program headed by the Firm’s Title IX Program Director. As a Hearing Officer at VM you can expect to:

·         Interact regularly with campus constituents regarding their internal policies and procedures;

·         Conduct neutral, procedurally-proper sexual misconduct Hearings;

·         Serve as a decision-maker in K-12 sexual harassment matters;

·         Draft detailed hearing decisions, and correspondence;

·         Conduct hearings from intake to completion;

·         Review, interpret, analyze and evaluate witness statements, documents and physical evidence;

·         Review, summarize, create and organize legal documents and information;

·         Receive ongoing training and mentorship; and

·         Perform other duties as appropriate to the skill, experience and education level of the candidate, and the needs of the Firm.

This position has no location requirements. The role can be performed remotely, with occasional travel, as needed.
