Attorney Investigator

Alison Gilmore is an Attorney Investigator with Van Dermyden Makus Law Corporation. Her practice focuses on conducting independent workplace investigations involving complex and sensitive matters, including allegations of misconduct and harassment.

Prior to joining the firm, Alison represented public safety employees and other public sector clients in administrative, civil, and criminal matters. She regularly advised clients in connection with workplace investigations and disciplinary proceedings, including matters involving allegations of sexual harassment. Through this work, she developed a practical understanding of investigative standards and procedures, as well as familiarity with statutory frameworks governing public safety employment, including the Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act (POBR) and the Firefighters Procedural Bill of Rights Act (FBOR).

Before becoming an attorney, Alison served as a police officer, where she conducted investigations, interviewed witnesses and involved parties, evaluated evidence, and prepared cases for prosecutorial review. She completed the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation’s 80-hour ICI Core Course, as well as additional training in interviewing and interrogation. She later served as a Public Information Officer, communicating complex information in high-pressure settings.

Alison approaches investigations with a focus on fairness, thoroughness, and careful analysis. She is experienced in conducting interviews, assessing credibility, and synthesizing information into clear, well-supported findings.

Alison earned her Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with an emphasis in Finance from Santa Clara University.
