Prior to joining Van Dermyden Makus, Shereen was a Litigation Associate at Fisher & Phillips LLP, an international law firm focused on representing management in labor and employment law matters. In this role, Shereen exclusively represented and advised private sector employers in all aspects of employment related disputes including, but not limited to, harassment, discrimination, whistleblowing, and retaliation. These matters often proceeded before state and/or federal courts, the Equal Opportunity Commission, and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, among others. She has experience working with a wide range of employers, from small family-owned businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

Shereen’s previous role at Fisher & Phillips guides her work as a neutral workplace investigator as it provided her with hands on experience in engaging in the fact-gathering process, including analyzing complaints, identifying witnesses and evidence, preparing for witness interviews, and making an overall case assessment. Her past employment litigation experience also provides her with a unique perspective in that she understands the value of thorough and impartial evaluations in order to guide future decisions.

Shereen also has over two years of experience in representing individuals in complex family law matters, which strengthened her ability to navigate emotionally charged situations and engage with people from diverse backgrounds.

Shereen earned her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, graduating with honors and distinction. While at McGeorge, Shereen served as a Primary Managing Editor of the University of the Pacific Law Review—Volume 52. She was appointed as Appellate Brief Writer for the Moot Court Honors Board, where she was responsible for drafting appellate briefs for national moot court competitions.

As a law student, Shereen honed her neutral evaluation skills by serving as a judicial extern for the Honorable Kendall J. Newman of the United States District Court, Eastern District of California, where she drafted objective legal memoranda and court opinions. She also externed in the civil litigation department at the California Attorney General’s Office where she gained valuable insight into the inner workings and nuances of public sector employment. While studying abroad during law school, Shereen spent a summer externing at an international law firm, CMS Hasche Sigle, in Berlin, Germany, where she focused her research on data privacy and mergers and acquisitions for global corporations.
