Many organizations receive a high volume of complaints, ranging in severity from minor concerns to high consequence claims of unlawful conduct. Employers have a legal obligation to investigate these complaints and HR professionals are often tasked with conducting the investigations. In this practical session, experiences workplace and Title IX investigators will take you through the nuts and bolts of the investigation process focusing on the framework needed to conduct efficient, effective, and defensible internal investigations. Topics will include: framing the allegations and investigative scope, right-sizing the investigation, thinking broadly about sources of evidence, preparing for investigative interviews, documenting the investigation, and elements of a strong analysis.
