Brendan has over a decade of experience conducting workplace and employment investigations, including allegations of discrimination, retaliation, workplace violence and injuries, harassment, and various policy violations. His clients include public safety, government institutions, schools, sports agencies, healthcare, and small organizations in all areas of business.
Brendan is experienced in large, complex investigations including multiple parties, complex fact patterns, and unique allegations. He focuses on providing impartial, detailed, and fact-based outcomes to his clients. He has used this approach to conduct comprehensive investigations involving employees at all levels, from trainees to corporate executives and elected officials.
Prior to joining Van Dermyden Makus, Brendan worked as an Inspector General, providing independent oversight and investigations into allegations of police misconduct, including complex and sensitive issues involving officer-involved shootings or fatality contacts. This background gives him a deep understanding of the unique challenges of public sector investigations as well as the Public Safety Procedural Bill of Rights Act.
Brendan earned his Juris Doctor with Distinction from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. He was a member of the Traynor Honor Society, co-founded the CLSS Society for criminal law specialists, and worked as a Research Assistant focusing on the civil and criminal responsibilities of mental healthcare professionals.
